Total recycling of low-quality urban-fringe construction and demolition waste towards the development of sustainable cement-free pervious concrete: The proof of concept

This work presents a proof-of-concept study of recycling low-quality urban-fringe construction and demolition waste for the development sustainable cement-free pervious concrete. Waste was in-situ collected from local site in Hangzhou, China, elaborately analyzed quality assessment. Ground brick powder activated by alkali activators at different (Al+Si)/Na ratios to find optimal mix ratio. Macro solids alkali-activated recycled were used as aggregate binding material, respectively, achieve total waste. The effects binder-to-aggregate ratio on engineering performances multi-scale structures concrete explored. Results showed that optimized paste had high compressive strength up 50 MPa. previous relatively low but water permeability. Microstructural mechanisms aspects pores, skeletons, matrix-aggregate interactions discussed. replacement cement substantial economic environmental benefits. findings this would provide promising route towards solving large-scale China.
